Thambulam or Tamboola is an ancient ritual wherein the deity is served with an amazing variety of condiments.<br /> <br />2. Amongst the Shodashopachara, the step that comes immediately after Naivedya is Tamboola.<br /> <br />3. The articles submitted to invoke blessings from the deity contain betel leaves, nutmeg, areca nuts, camphor, tandol, vermilion, and other fresh mints.<br /> <br />4. The coins are not offered along with Tamboola offering. It is only kept on the betel leaf while formally handing out Dakshina after the Shodashopachara.<br /> <br />5. ||Om Sri Mahaganapataye Namah, Tamboolam Samarpayaami||<br />This mantra is chanted by the poojari (priest) while practicing this rite, which is both as an act of devotion and adoration.<br /> <br />6. A few believe that it gestures of respect, just like any superiors were offered Paan-Supari after a feast. <br /> <br />7. The popular belief behind this practice is that it helps in digesting the food, this is why presented to the gods after the Naivedhyam.<br /> <br />8.
